A ‘65 Mustang with an inline 6, 200 cu. engine. Being sold for $5850. The weird thing? I don’t even like black cars nor do I like this body style, but I completely fell for this car when I first saw it!
Apparently the owners wife, an elderly couple, traded it in because she didn’t like the old style of brakes. They traded it in for a newer mustang. Can’t help but wonder why it took so long for her to not like the brakes? Eh, their lost.
The vin number is “5F07T 660165”, which I originally thought was wrong because no vin decoder website would break it down, but this morning I found !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! site which informs me that the second half of this vin is the ‘consecutive unit order’. Was really hoping for a way to find out the original color and such, but that’ll do.
Unfortunately I still can’t afford it ( no matter how much I reeeaaally want to sell everything to get it) because student loans hate me and family first. But seeing this car further defines my desire for a mustang; and before I just loved the fastback body style, now I’m in love with the coupe body style.
I love these wheels, and the mud on the body just enhances the cars beauty. She’s a dirty girl.
That is a sexy rear.
It’s an automatic and I don’t even care!
Someone should buy it and give it to me. Think of it as a way to enhance my daughter’s childhood. Think of the children!

Throw it on a Credit Card, you can buy a car under 5k like that. I am a horrible influence sorry.

A long time ago I drove a Mustang of this vintage and a somewhat older Falcon, the car on which the original Mustang was based. The brakes, manual in both cases, might as well have been operated by cables. They did not make it easy to judge stopping distances.

Classic car values make no sense
I don’t get why this one is so cheap but other ones that look the same are going for over 3X that

Credit card limit isn’t nearly that high. Only way I can possibly get it is sell my broken pt cruiser and I highly doubt anyone wants one at the moment; plus it’s worth at most $1000. :/

Probably because this is a base trim model, and the others were priced by people and want to make as much $$$ as possible off the poor sap who buys it.

Base model 6cyl engine is one reason. I’m sure tossing a 289 or 302 in it would double the value.

it’s cheap because it’s a base 6-cylinder car, which (relatively speaking) is dog slow. Everyone wants the Mach 1s, Boss 302s/429s, 428 Cobra Jets that they lusted after when they were kids. Nobody yearned for a “secretary’s car” base model with the 200 c.i. wheezer. The Falcon inline 6 had an intake manifold cast into the cylinder head, which says “LOL” to airflow.
People care about the muscle cars or the iconic models of the day. Everyone wants a pristine Chevy Bel Air or Impala. Nobody cares about the Chevy Biscaynes, DelRays, 150s, 210s, or all of the other base models which have rusted away and or been scrapped.
On the other hand, these base-level cars are ripe for resto-mods. You’re not harming the value by dropping in a fuel injected crate Windsor V8, updating the suspension and tires.
Just be sure and do a brake upgrade. I guarantee that thing has drum brakes all around, and those suck ass.

Agree. It looks like its in nice shape, but 105hp through the auto is not enjoyable. I mean, the motor was called the Thriftpower lol. Not worth paying over $4k for.

I actually thought this morning, “that mustang would look awesome with a truck rack.” Looks like I was right.

That’s not a bad price at all. Trim and jazz in good condition. Needs a 5.0/T5, PS, and 4wheel discs. Personal loan? lol terrible financial choices!
I would be tempted...

As other said, base trim model and engine are the primary reasons. Also, not original wheels and interior looks like it needs work. When I bought my fully restored 66 convertible in 2013, it was $23,500 but was all original, in perfect condition, had the high performance 289, and had every option available on it. But I would snap this one up in a heartbeat!

Yeah, my 66 required you to plan about a block ahead if you wanted to stop.

The Original color information and rear gearing info are inside on the edge of the door on 60's Fords, yeah, infuriating. I really wish it was built into the VIN.
Pricing points I’ll make, are that it needs seat work and it has a mismatched dashboard cover.
I’d be concerned about rust under neath and in a couple very specific locations for these. Around the fenders, torque boxes specifically.

Oops, it did not — so not every option. Unfortunately, it did not survive an encounter with an idiot in a Ford 350 who could not see a bright red classic Mustang on a clear, sunshiney day and decided to turn left. I looked at a couple of fastbacks that had the pony seats — I love those.

aww, that’s a shame.
It’s amazing how people don’t see bright red classic cars on shinny days isn’t it? Has happened to me in the Montego before. I’m grateful for it’s loud ass double horns.
Ever get a replacement classic?

Also floor pans, they are notorious for rusting out.
